“Cellular energy” describes real chemistry, but it can become an imprecise treatment promise. NAD participates in reactions involved in metabolism. Feeling tired, however, does not establish that you have an NAD deficiency or that an infusion will address the cause.
A necessary molecule is not automatically a useful treatment
Mitochondria help cells convert fuel into usable energy and participate in other cellular processes. Their work depends on interconnected systems rather than a single ingredient. Describing one part of that system does not demonstrate that adding more of it improves a person’s symptoms. [1]
A persuasive treatment claim needs evidence for the actual intervention and outcome. For fatigue, that might mean a meaningful improvement in validated symptom measures and daily function in an appropriate controlled study. A change in a laboratory marker alone cannot supply that answer.
Check the route and study population
Oral NAD precursors, NAD injections, and laboratory experiments should not be grouped together as interchangeable evidence. For example, an early oral NR study in Parkinson disease explored brain NAD-related measures; it did not validate NAD IV as a general energy treatment. [2]
Safety includes how the product is made
Sterile injections require suitable ingredients and manufacturing controls. FDA has raised concerns about food-grade NAD+ ingredients used for sterile compounding and reports of adverse reactions following NAD+ injections. An IV bypasses some of the body’s usual barriers, which makes product quality an essential part of the discussion. [3]
Questions before pursuing treatment for fatigue
- What possible causes of my symptoms should be evaluated first?
- Which human evidence supports this exact product and route?
- What benefit will we measure, and over what period?
- What risks, alternatives, and total costs should I understand?
A useful care plan begins with the person’s symptoms, history, and goals. “More cellular energy” is not a sufficiently specific diagnosis or treatment endpoint.
